Learning by Various Intelligences

Education is changing. In this global era, everyone has thought that education is the most important thing to have. School is a common place to get a mountain of information. Nowadays, people realize schools are covered by classic things, such as in scoring, giving explanations, and also from the media used. This reality is in opposite with some educationalists invention that basically each person has miscellany styles in learning, based on their intelligences. Those types of learning can be classified to cognitive, affective, and psychomotor. According to the educationalists invention, government should ask schools to apply those three types of learning than keep apply the classics.

The first category of intelligence is cognitive intelligence. People have already been familiar with the word “cognitive”. They will directly say that cognitive is related to the ability of person to think or to accept the knowledge. In the past, people considered that everyone had this type of intelligence. They thought that everyone was able to think and accept the knowledge easily, whether it is given in explanation or they read by themselves. Nowadays, educationalists have revealed that not all people can use their brain to think maximally. People who belong to this type of intelligence are usually good in analyzing. Most of them are good in recalling data and comprehending information. These people prefer to criticize something in written than spoken. There are three examples of this type, such as logical-mathematical intelligence, existential intelligence, and linguistics intelligence.

The second category is affective intelligence. Affective means that each person has different attitude towards others and conditions. This type emphasizes on personal attitude, especially about feelings and emotional side. Amazingly, it is not only influenced by environment, but also gene is the most influenced factor towards someone’s affective. This factor makes the people in this type of intelligence mostly cannot comprehend the knowledge directly. They will understand the meaning of something by memorizing it. In this context, people with this type need to take a note along the lessons. If they study by themselves, they will always make summary or note the important ideas. Intrapersonal intelligence, interpersonal intelligence, and spatial intelligence are the instances of this type.

The third category is psychomotor intelligence. The word ‘psycho’ in psychomotor brings us to comprehend that psychomotor is related to physic. In this type of intelligence, psychomotor covers all human ability in physical skill. This type is very special because only specific people who have this ability. These people tend to act than stay silent in learning. Making mistake is the first thing they do to be maximal in learning. Good cooperation is also their specialization in learning because sometimes they do not pay attention to the instructions, but directly practice their general knowledge. This condition drives people with this type love aesthetic more than other types. The examples of this type are bodily-kinesthetic intelligence, musical intelligence, and naturalist intelligence.

The variety of human learning makes schools should be balance in scoring and also in the way teachers give the lessons. Not only based on cognitive aspect, but also from affective and psychomotor aspects should be the main point in learning. Different characteristics have different way on study.  Comprehending the type of learning will influence someone in gaining success.
